In late 2021, a small audience in Berlin experienced something entirely new: for three hours, they sat in a room where powerful low-frequency music, composed by Deaf and hearing artists, moved through their bodies—altering perception and leading them into a different state of mind.
Months later, nearly 100 people in Lisbon had a similar experience. Some cried, some fell asleep, but most left saying the same thing:
🗣 “I feel like my mind and my body are one.”
These were the first showcases of Sub_Bar music—a new form of composition built for the sense of touch. Developed at Sub_Bar Academy, this practice trains Deaf artists to work with low frequencies, leading some to perform at festivals and museums across Europe.
There are no recordings of these shows—they are meant to be lived, not replayed.
Now, The Sub_Bar Show #1 premieres this April in nearly 30 cities, marking the beginning of a new genre and a shared ritual for Deaf and hearing audiences alike.
Featuring exclusive music from artists like Efdemin, Reboot, Felicity Mangan, Byetone, Roberto Musci, and Stefanie Egedy, the show is a monthly show presented in sign languages, with subtitles and sometimes audio.
