Kevin Rice (Process Reversal) – Photochemical Intiatives
http://processreversal.org/

Process Reversal is a U.S. based collective which seeks to preserve celluloid film practices through research, resource development, and film productions focused on advancing the aesthetics and technology of the medium itself. In this sense, the times that we are facing with celluloid today are in fact the most exciting opportunities in the history of the medium — as the industry collapses all around us, we are being left with a chance to re-invent the medium in an image that was neither intended nor desired by the commercialism of the medium; one that explores new ways of seeing, new ways of hearing, and new ways of speaking about film.

Kevin Rice, a member of Process Reversal, will be presenting on behalf of the collective. He is a self described ‘film archivist’ whose practice focuses on the study of photochemical theories, the development of lab resources for filmmakers, and the documentation of various darkroom odysseys on motion picture film.

The talk will expose his perspectives on contemporary film practices today, as well as the artist run film lab community, by discussing the formation, development, and infinite struggles of their collective, Process Reversal. In this, he will be sharing several works from members of the collective, including his own, and discussing their process and how it has evolved since the formation of our group. Along the way, he will explain several aspects of the photo-chemical process in film making and attempt to perform a live demonstration of a technique or two.

Predicting the future but not forgetting critical point of view for technology.
