“Warped Vision”

Theresa Baumgartner is a visual artist based in Berlin.
In her work, she explores the dialogue between moving image and music using her own distinct, bleak aesthetics that derive from a painter´s approach to pixels and light.

For AV performances and music videos, she has teamed up with artists like Deadfader, Positive Centre, Sighas and Shifted´s projects Covered in Sand and Visions of Love.

For her talk at scope sessions, she will present her new project with Alis. The producer formerly known as Subbeena, worked with artists such as Jamie Woon and Om’Mas Keith, and appeared on labels such as Planet Mu and on Fabric’s Surgeon mix CD.

Her work has been featured on music magazines and websites such as The Guardian, Fact Magazine, The Quietus and many more.

Her Music consists of multi – layered sounds combined with dancy, bassy rhythms covering them with smokey vocals.

In a first degree access to creating visuals Theresa will manipulate live captured and live generated content with both analogue and digital tools. The findings of that process is a distorted picture of the immediate present, the now ripped apart into various layers.

Safe and Sound: a personal reflection on the nature of alarming systems

This talk will be dedicated to the rhetorics of alarms and emergency signals, in sound and visual, as a part of the artist’s ongoing abstract research on the subjects. Discussing the movement in history of reflectives and glow of magical tricks to military tactics, dazzle and camouflage to the aesthetic of psychedelics, observing the extended usage of led lights in everyday households, safety regulations in the public sphere and neon runners.
