Nyege Nyege & Panke present a new event series dedicated to supporting global solidarity projects. The first edition on Thursday, June 6th is focusing on two projects from Uganda:
*Homeland Brass Band*
Founded by FloMoon in 2015, Homeland Brass is a safe space for children to learn music while their parents – usually single mothers – have to be at work. Thanks to generous donations and acquisitions, the school band now owns over 20 instruments, including marching drums and brass instruments. The students have progressed to the point where they are in demand for wedding functions, music festivals, and events. Usually Flo tries to cover all the school expenses providing school materials, clothes, advice, and care, but she can’t meet all the needs on her own.
*Te-Oteng Community Nursery & Primary School*
Te Oteng Community School is the first ever school to be established in the village of Anyomotwon, Gulu, Northern Uganda. The establishment of a school in the community that has been ravaged by 20 years of protracted war.
The children face significant challenges in accessing education. The nearest primary school is a daunting five kilometers away, and to reach it, they must traverse through the bush, risking their safety every day. The children deserve access to education without having to embark on such dangerous journeys.
