Series “A beam of light for boundary sight” (2016-2018) investigates separation and alienation of the space by placing a source of light under the water’s surface. Water is about 800 times denser than air. It slows the speed of light and bends its rays. This so called refraction effect draws a boundary between 2 completely different worlds: the space we live in and the space underwater, which is so foreign to our survival.
Julija Goyd was born 1979 in Vilnius, Lithuania. She currently lives and works in Berlin.
Julija’s early practises and works balance between natural decay of bodies and its exploitation within social and economic boundaries. Lately her focus has shifted more towards abstract representations, involving subjects of eroticism and studies of nature, mainly focusing on subject of water.
Her photography work was featured in the book The Naked & The Nude curated by Peter Weiermair and published in 2013 by Stockmal and Martel. The book is an anthology of international nude photography, which features works by some of contemporary art’s best-known names like Wolfgang Tillmanns, Nobuyoshi Araki, Ralph Gibson, Vanessa Beecroft and Jeff Bark. Following the success of the first book, Peter Weiermair curated another edition titled Faces (2015) and Julija’s photographs were featured for a second time alongside works by Robert Mapplethorpe, Juergen Teller, Anton Corbijn, Antoine D’Agata and Pieter Hugo.
One of her major film projects, a documentary about the research institute Rework, was successfully premiered in Berlin during The Long Night of Sciences (2013).
In 2016 she started a collaboration with &editions – a non-profit initiative supporting both art institutions and artists. That is the first project of this kind covering the Baltic region. As a result Julija’s work has been showcased during Printed Matter’s LA Art book Fair (2017), Offprint London at Tate Modern (2017) and Printed Matter’s NY Art book Fair at MoMAPS1 (2017).
Her video work “Decadentia” was programmed as part of Art Biennale Glasgow International 2018.

Fotoserija “A beam of light for boundary sight” (2016-2018) tiria erdvės atskyrimą ir susvetimėjimą, šviesos šaltinį patalpinant po vandeniu. Vanduo yra 800 kartų tankesnis už orą. Jis sulėtina šviesos greitį ir laužo jos spindulius. Pakeista šviesos sklidimo kryptis brėžia ribą tarp dviejų visiškai skirtingų pasaulių: mūsų gyvenamosios erdvės ir povandeninės erdvės, tokios priešiškos žmogaus prigimčiai.
Julija Goyd gimė 1979-aisiais Vilniuje, bet šiuo metu gyvena ir kuria Berlyne. Jos pirmi darbai balansavo tarp natūralių kūno irimo procesų ir kūno eksplotacijos socialiniame ir ekonominiame kontekste. Neseniai jos pagrindinė kūrybos ašis pasisuko link abstrakčių reprezentacijų, apimančių erotikos temą ir gamtos studijas, pagrinde vandenį.
Julijos fotografijos buvo įtrauktos į albumą “The Naked & The Nude”, kurį kuravo Peter Weiermair ir kuris buvo išspausdintas 2013-aisiais “Stockmal and Martel” leidykloje. Ši knyga yra tarptautinės aktų fotografijos antologija, kurioje taip pat buvo sudėti žinomų šiuolaikinių menininkų, tokių kaip Wolfgang Tillmanns, Nobuyoshi Araki, Ralph Gibson, Vanessa Beecroft ir Jeff Bark, darbai. Pirmosios knygos sėkmę sekė antras Peterio Weiermairo kuruotas albumas “Faces” (2015), kuriame Julijos fotografijos sugulė greta Roberto Mapplethorpe’o, Juergeno Tellero, Antono Corbijn’o, Antoine D’Agata ir Pietero Hugo darbų.
Vienas jos pagrindinių filmo projektų – dokumentika apie tyrimų institutą “Rework” – sėkmingai pristatytas Berlyne per Mokslo naktį 2013-aisiais.
2016-aisiais ji pradėjo bendradarbiavimą su “&editions”, ne pelno siekiančia iniciatyva, remiančia tiek meno institucijas, tiek menininkus. Tai buvo pirmas tokio pobūdžio projektas Baltijos šalių regionui. Šio projekto rezultatai buvo rodomi Printed Matter’s LA Art book Fair (2017), Offprint London “Tate Modern” muziejuje (2017) ir Printed Matter’s NY Art book Fair “MoMA PS1” muziejuje (2017).
Jos video darbas “Decadentia” šiais metais tapo “Glasgow International” menų bienalės programos dalimi.

Bilderserie “A beam of light for boundary sight” (2016-2018) untersucht die Trennung und Gegenüberstellung der Sphären, indem die Lichtquelle unter der Wasseroberfläche platziert wird. Wasser ist etwa 800 mal dichter als Luft. Es verlangsamt die Lichtgechwindigkeit und bricht seine Strahlen. Dieser Effekt, genannt auch Refraktion, trennt zwei Sphären: unsere Lebenswelt vom Unterwasser, dem Raum so fremd für unser (Über)leben.
Julija Goyd wurde 1978 in Vilnius, Litauen, geboren. Mittlerweile lebt und arbeitet sie in Berlin.
Die früheren Praktiken und Arbeiten von Julija bilanzierten zwischen den Themen des natürlichen Verfalls eines Körpers und dessen Ausbeutung im heutigen sozialen und ökonomischen Kontext. Letztens verlegte sie ihr Fokus auf abstrakte Repräsentationen, in denen die Themen der Erotik und Studien der Natur, insbesondere des Wassers, dominieren.
Ihre Bilder erschienen in Buch “The Naked & The Nude”, kuratiert von Peter Weiermair und herausgegeben von “Stockmal and Martel” im Jahr 2013. Eins ihrer größten Filmprojekten, der Dokumentarfilm über das Forschungsinstitut “Rework”, wurde erfolgreich in Berlin, in der Nacht der Wissenschaft 2013, präsentiert.
