Flee Immediately!, with Joana Chicau, will present a series of workshops and performances experimenting with choreographic relations and code, from bodies of code to actual bodies, from digital deviations to physical ones. Part 2 includes the ‘100 Scores’ Workshop with Lai Yi Olsen which invites anyone (no need to be a dancer or a coder) to participate in enacting basic code structures through movement and dance. The event series is part of a larger collaboration and research that began in Flee Immediately! issue 02.
Workshop With: Lai Yi Ohlsen
The ‘100 Scores’ workshop will focus upon the intersection of decision making in technical and artistic disciplines. This event will be the second live contribution to the dynamic repository ‘100 Scores’: improvisational movement guides inspired by algorithmic design. The attendees and I will work through the embodiment of regiments originally written for efficient machines and by using the body to make choices, we will bring form to the algorithms that have only ever seen function. This work is part of my ongoing effort as an artist to bridge gaps of understanding through process and communication.
The inefficiencies of the body are crucial to this concept and thus trained and untrained movers are welcomed and appreciated. I plan to follow a loose three hour structure that is open to shift with the weight of the room but will progress along a clear trajectory provided by the scores themselves. As we work through the scores, we will discuss our intention and choice making as a way to find the space in between ourselves and the technical minds who originally created them.
No need to be a dancer, anyone welcome!
