<> JollyJay & H-to-O
JollyJay & H-to-O are a hip hop crew currently living in Berlin, that was formed in 2006. With a nomadic base somewhere between Munich, London, Brighton, Reading and Berlin the two have been selling their home-made mix-tapes on the streets of Berlin over the past couple of years, and finally moved there in 2009 where they have now set up their home studio. In late July 2010 their debut album ‘Scattered Colours on the Rubkis Cube’ was released just in time for the 39 Day Road trip (watch here) from Berlin to Casablanca in which they set off with two mates and only the album and merchandise T-shirts as currency to get them down to Africa.
‘Scattered Colours on the Rubiks Cube’ was created together with their DJ/ Producer Doe Diggla, but also features many other producers from the UK and Germany (Mr. Boss, Bigfoot, JD, L One). JollyJay’s sister Bajka, the talented soul singer who has worked with Bonobo and Radio Citizen and is currently working with Madlib, is also featured on ‘Scattered Colours’ along with many MC’s from around the world.
However, JollyJay & H-to-O are far more than just “battle punch-line MC’s” Their lyrics range from abstract poetry, to storytelling, humor, irony and social critical awareness. Also the beats chosen by the two MC’s are very diverse ranging from calm jazzy chill out loops to modern upbeat bangers with double time flows.
