Dear AUGB-members,
For the upcoming meeting we have a very special guest from Canada, Nafis, a.k.a. LiveCube. His project includes major cross-functions of audio, visuals, lights, motion and space. He will show us his approach of how to use Ableton as a routing engine to present shows – optimising & controlling multiple mediums. Followed by a showcase to demonstrate it in real time.
The LiveCube project operates on the approach of optimisation as a routing + processing tool. Currently, the technical aspect includes running audio, visuals and lights as a cohesive unit glued together by Ableton Live. This talk will focus on the development process of this production. Some broad areas of discussion would be the workflow, templates for live shows + productions, automations as primary control parameters etc; along with some nifty tricks such as using loopers as a live tool, a live FX rack, an automated live drum rack etc. There will also be some discussions on going beyond musical ideas and focusing on light automations / audio-reactive lights, visual triggers, alternative controllers etc.

About:
LiveCube is the moniker and brainchild of Nafis, who has been working in the live scene in South Asia for over 15 years as the founder of his previous entertainment company LiveSquare. His years of experience as an artist, creative director and arts entrepreneur is being amalgamated into this project. You may define it as an arts production, a live arts company, an installation or an artist or character. The project includes major cross-functions of audio, visuals, lights, motion and space. Therefore, it is hard to put into a certain ‘labelled box’, hence the title ‘Live’Cube. He is currently in Berlin under the Border Movement Residency supported by Musicboard Berlin, Goethe Institut, Ableton & Native Instruments. The prime aim is to explore the possibilities and design his first original production with both a live version and a multimedia installation. Alongside music, he is an enthusiast of allied arts and technology, constantly seeking to include new approaches and executions to his concepts.
Come and see, what is possible and bring your questions with you 🙂
We look forward to meeting you,
Maya & Brian
