Ableton User Group meeting

Dear Group Members,

our next User Group meeting is Wednesday, June 8, 2016.

This time, we are really lucky to have Stas Mankovich show us some controller-voodoo with the “Live Python API”. This means that you can do — among other things — some very cool custom MIDI controller programming (including Push) via Max for Live.

Stas is a musician and programmer who lives in Berlin and works — among other things — on remote script development for Ableton, so it would be hard to find a better person to talk to us about this!

Stas’ presentation will start with a short introduction to Max for Live and then will get into “How Max for Live communicates with the Live API”. Even if you haven’t gotten into Max for Live yet, this will certainly give you an idea as to what is possible for your own specialized Live setups with MIDI controllers.

In the second half of the evening, there will be another “Show Your Stuff” session, where members will have 10 minutes to do a short presentation of their Live sets, tracks, devices, or whatever. This can can be a “show and tell” thing, a way to find people to collaborate on some stuff (musical or technical) that you are working on, or just a request for some feedback on what you are working on. If you’d like to participate, please bring any data you might want to show (audio, video, pictures, Live sets, whatever) on a stick or on your computer. We’ll have VGA, Thunderbolt, and HDMI adapters, as well as mini-jack connections for audio. Remember, time is limited, so we’ll only have a few slots available after Stas’ presentation. Last month’s presentations were awesome — a lot of you commented on how much you learned and/or were inspired by these short presentations.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on the 8th!
