“Seitdem ich angefangen habe, mich auf die Musik von mioe einzulassen, ertappe ich mich immer öfter beim Zurückspulen. Beim Zurückspulen der Stellen, die scheinbar ganz aufwandslos alle entscheidenden Register der Musikalität ziehen – ich spreche von einer grandiosen Melodie, einem so subtilen wie wirkungsvollen Drum-Pattern oder einer Basslinie, die sich genau im richtigen Moment zu einer gleitenden, unverhofften Bewegung hinreißen lässt. Dabei legt es diese Musik gar nicht an auf diese Momente, sie entstehen nicht aus Kalkül, sondern ganz natürlich aus ihrer Spielfreude und Angriffslust, aber auch beharrlichen Hingabe heraus. Beim genauen Hinhören sind die Stellen stets viel komplexer als man denkt, kaum zu ergründen von einem nur konsumierenden Ohr. Da gibt es Wiederholungen, Übergänge und harsche Stops, die komprimieren so viel Musikalität und klanglichen Instinkt in sich, dass einem doch nur die unverstandene Freude bleibt. Ihre Intensität erreicht diese Musik durch Reduktion auf eine Gitarre, Bass, Schlagzeug und Stimme, deren Kraft eine sehr strukturelle ist. Der nicht vorhersehbare Wechsel vom Abstrakten zum Konkreten, von der Störung zur Klarheit und umgekehrt ist das Faszinierende daran. Diese Musik beherrscht das virtuose Spiel von laut und leise, langsam und schnell; alles getrieben von Sehnsucht und nicht selten Ratlosigkeit. Sie ist auf der Suche nach dem Besseren – à la recherche du mioe.”

“Since I have started letting myself in for the music of mioe, I find myself winding back with increased regularity. Winding back the sections that pull out all the stops of musicality – I am speaking of a sublime melody, a drum pattern as subtle as it is effective or a bass line, which in the right moment lets itself get carried away into a floating, unhoped-for movement. At the same time this music does not aim for these moments, they do not arise from calculation, but rather from their joy of playing and hawkishness, but also from their insistent devotion. Listening closely to these sections, one will notice that they are always much more complex than one believes, barely to be comprehended with an ear solely consuming. There are repetitions, transitions and harsh stops that condense so much musicality and tonal instinct that one is left with nothing but uncomprehended joy. This music achieves its intensity by reduction to a guitar, bass, drums and voice, their strength being a very structural one. The unforeseeable shift from the abstract to the concrete, from disorder to clarity and vice versa is what is fascinating about it. This music masters the virtuosic play of loud and quiet, slow and fast; all driven by desire and not seldom perplexity. It is in search of the better – à la recherche du mioe.”
